Sandrine Divine Bakuramutsa was born and raised in Gakenke, rural Rwanda, and is a rising senior at Michigan State University, majoring in Food science with a minor in food industry management. On campus, Sandrine is a member of Spartan Global Development Fund, a student-run non-profit organization that creates awareness about the role of microfinances and fair trade as grassroot tools in the quest for permanent and sustainable solutions to global hunger and poverty. She participated in a spring break anti-hunger education abroad program in 2020 in Guatemala. She also serves as a secretary of Minorities in agriculture and Natural resources and related sciences, Michigan State University chapter, an organization that aims to empower minority students and train a diverse pool of talented leaders who are committed to alleviate hunger and poverty through agriculture. Sandrine is interested in building capacity of rural farmers, providing them with access to economic resources and ensuring that their role in food supply chain is recognized.
