Why This Fund?

Good leadership is a steady beacon for social movements, providing hope and stability during tumultuous times. Our bipartisan legacy of leadership development is a powerful strategy to end hunger—one we have built over thirty years, and that has positively impacted the lives of thousands of people and hundreds of communities.

We receive more than 50 percent of our annual funding from Congress to support our flagship leadership development programs, the Bill Emerson National Hunger Fellowship and the Mickey Leland International Hunger Fellowship.

Due to the shuttering of USAID and ongoing federal grant freezes and reviews, the Hunger Center is facing significant uncertainty around when—and if—we will be able to access our federal funding. We have chosen not to pause our fellowships during this time in the hope we will ultimately access these funds, but timing is critical.

In response to this uncertainty, we have established the Sustaining Leaders Fund with the goal of raising $500,000 in the next three months—the equivalent of what we spend in federal funds over a quarter.

We know that hunger can be solved in our lifetime—we lack only the effective leaders who can build the political and public will to make it happen. We need your help to keep our thirty year mission going—please support our Sustaining Leaders Fund today.
