In May 2001 Danielle graduated summa cum laude from Oberlin College with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She was a Bonner Scholar working with the Lorain County Children and Families Council on programs targeted at low-income families with children ages 0 to 3.

Danielle planned, coordinated, and facilitated the South Carolina Anti-Hunger Network's second annual state-wide conference entitled "Hungry Children Can't Learn: Hunger Issues in Education." She also worked on Hispanic/Latino issues for Harvest Hope Food Bank, interpreting and translating for clients, doing community outreach, and conducting cultural competency training for Food Bank staff and volunteers.
