The Congressional Hunger Center is excited to accept applications for its third cohort of Legacy Leaders. Building on our initial investment in our Hunger Fellows and Zero Hunger Interns, this program further develops our alums’ leadership skills in specific areas of focus, helping them become even more effective leaders in the movement to end hunger and poverty. The program is made possible with generous support from the Kroger Co. Foundation.
This year’s cohort will focus on Pursuing Executive Leadership, preparing alums to step confidently into C-suite roles in organizations leading the fight against hunger and poverty.

Second cohort of Legacy Leaders, summer 2024
Nonprofit leadership in the U.S. has reached a turning point in recent years. Baby Boomers are retiring from the workforce, creating openings in leadership, but rising generations feel they lack the preparation and professional mentorship to succeed. New executives need to balance fulfilling on their organization’s mission, navigating increased funding pressures, and responding to changing expectations around autonomy, transparency, and collaboration in the workplace.
That’s why this year we will focus on supporting alums who are ready to embrace the challenges and opportunities of executive leadership. This cohort of 12 to 15 mid-career alums will participate in an intensive two-day in-person institute in Washington, D.C., hearing from inspiring leaders and developing their skills and networks to prepare them for the next stages in their leadership journeys. This year’s institute will take place in Washington, D.C., from September 17-19, 2025.
The Hunger Center provides participants with robust training sessions, breakfasts and lunches, and two nights’ hotel accommodations for alums traveling from outside the Washington, D.C., metro region. A limited number of travel scholarships to attend the two-day are also available for alums with financial need.
