The purpose of this paper is to present the ‘business case’ for increasing women’s participation in agricultural cooperatives. It is the result of research that was conducted in 2014 with the Manduvira Cooperative, a fairtrade sugarcane cooperative in Paraguay. The findings presented in this paper can be used to persuade cooperatives to be proactive in increasing women’s membership and leadership in their institutions.
