September is Hunger Action Month, and the Congressional Hunger Center is launching our latest End Hunger Challenge on September 1, 2024.
The Hunger Action Month course is available online, free of charge, and includes our four-part video series that identifies the root causes of food insecurity and steps to becoming an effective advocate. In addition, participants will find:
- An interactive online money management simulation for gaining an understanding of financial constraints for those experiencing poverty;
- Data dashboards to pinpoint the current level of food insecurity in every county in the U.S.;
- Videos that explain the economic impacts of hunger; and
- Insights from top academic institutions on how to reduce food waste.
With each new launch of an End Hunger Challenge, our team at the Hunger Center focuses on a range of topics most useful for anti-hunger advocates. This month’s course will include material on rural food insecurity, the importance of good nutrition for our aging population, continuing challenges of food waste, and the lingering effects of food insecurity post-COVID.
Liz Pearce, Partnership and Outreach Manager, manages all our Zero Hunger Academy courses, invited Zero Hunger Intern Laura Jayne to help with content curation for the upcoming challenge. Laura shared, “As a fourth-year student of Food Studies at Syracuse University, I have acquired a pretty nuanced perspective on food justice at home and abroad. In working on this course with Liz Pearce, I have been able to reflect on my own knowledge within this space by aggregating sources from a plethora of creators.”
Participants who enroll can complete the course in one day, or throughout September. Each user will receive a certificate of completion that can be used for volunteer service requirements or training. Sign up today to save your spot!
